>> small venues exemption - support the MU campaign
calling all members of the Musicians Union - please help support live music! the MU has prepared a response to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport?s consultation on a possible exemption to the Licensing Act for small venues.
the main points are as follows:
- an audience of 100 or less is too small and the exemption should be extended to cover performances of live music for not more than 200 persons
- there is no evidence to suggest that the public is adversely affected by live music at all, let alone small live music performances
- the MU's own investigations with the police demonstrated that smaller live music performances have no adverse effect on the promotion of any of the licensing objectives
- in the current difficult economic climate, many pubs and venues are struggling to survive and evidence shows that live music increases takings and can help them survive the recession
the consultation runs until 26 march 2010 and it would be great if as many MU members as possible could write to the DCMS supporting our submission.
to do this, please send an email to: licensingconsultation@culture.gsi.gov.uk stating that you support the MU's submission to the 'consultation on a proposal to exempt small live music events from the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003'
